The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine has honored two residents with the Lloyd Rader Award, which recognizes outstanding clinical and research achievements in residency. Named for the director of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services from 1951 to 1982, the award comes with a $500 cash prize.

Ganesh Prasanna, M.D., was honored in the category of residency programs lasting four years or less. He completed his general pediatrics residency this year and is starting a cardiology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.

Prasanna earned his MBBS degree at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute in Bengaluru, India. He received several awards during his residency at OU, including the Best Inpatient Intern Award for Outstanding Inpatient Clinical Care Delivery, Resident of the Month, and an Oral Presentation Award on Pediatric Research Day. He was also elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

He took part in several research and quality improvement experiences, including serving as co-investigator for pediatric cardiology projects.  He has been an author for several research publications and has given presentations on campus, regionally and nationally.

One of Prasanna’s nominators said he excelled in all areas of the tripartite mission: patient care, education and research: “Dr. Prasanna’s number one focus is taking excellent care of his patients. In his intern year, he worked tirelessly to hone his own patient care skills. As he has progressed through residency, he has continued to work hard to take excellent care of patients himself and to guide others in this as well. He is also deeply engaged in research and dedicated to education and educational scholarship.”

For residency programs lasting five years or longer, the College of Medicine honored Abdul Qadar, M.D., who completed his urology residency this year and is starting a urologic oncology fellowship at MD Anderson in Houston.

Qadar earned his medical degree from the OU College of Medicine, School of Community Medicine campus in Tulsa. In addition to his clinical work, he has been active in both research and educational activities. His research accomplishments include presentations at regional and national meetings, peer-reviewed publications and manuscripts. His research spans a range of clinically relevant topics, including pediatric urology, oncologic care and surgical outcomes. He was awarded the Top Pediatric Urology Poster at the American Urological Association South Central Section meeting for his research on surgical and nonsurgical management of circumcision complications.

Qadar has demonstrated a strong commitment to education and mentorship. He has consistently collaborated with faculty, residents and medical students on research and clinical projects, fostering a team-based academic environment. In the clinical environment, faculty have noted his ability to anticipate needs, coordinate care effectively and remain fully engaged in both inpatient and operative settings.

A nominator said: “Dr. Qadar is a highly motivated and well-rounded resident who has consistently demonstrated strong clinical performance and academic engagement throughout his training. He combines a strong work ethic and reliability with the ability to collaborate effectively and contribute meaningfully to patient care and program initiatives. His sustained involvement in scholarly activity, along with his responsiveness to feedback and continued growth over time, highlights his commitment to excellence.”
