OU Researcher Receives Grant to Create Fall Risk Assessment

Falls occurring inside the home are one of the most critical health threats facing older adults, impacting an estimated 14 million Americans each year – a risk estimated to be two to three times higher for the 7.4 million people in the U.S. living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. To address this growing crisis, Dr. Tara Klinedinst, an occupational therapist and assistant professor in the OU College of Allied Health, has received a two-year grant from the Alzheimer’s Association to create an evidence-based fall risk assessment adapted for virtual delivery with the assistance of caregivers for people living with dementia.

The project, titled “STEADI Connect,” aims to create practical tools to help clinicians identify fall risk earlier, while reducing barriers related to transportation, mobility and cognitive impairment.
