College of Medicine Announces Inaugural Vice Dean of Education

The Univeristy of Oklahoma College of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Irene Alexandraki, M.D., Ph.D., MPH, MBA, FACP, as the Inaugural Vice Dean of Education at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, effective July 2025, pending OU Regents’ approval.  Alexandraki will also work closely with the OU School of Community Medicine. 

Alexandraki is a nationally respected medical educator, clinician, and scholar whose career has been defined by academic excellence, visionary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to student and faculty success. She currently serves as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Medicine and Clinical Scholar at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix, where she has led strategic initiatives in accreditation, curriculum innovation, and faculty development. 

With dual doctoral degrees in medicine (M.D.) and adult education (Ph.D.), as well as advanced training in public health and business administration, Alexandraki brings a uniquely interdisciplinary perspective to this new leadership role. She is also a Fellow of the prestigious Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program and holds a 2024 Executive MBA from Washington State University.

Over the course of her career, Alexandraki has served in leadership roles at several institutions across the country, including Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Florida State University College of Medicine, and the University of Florida. Her experience spans curriculum design, identification of clinical sites for learning, adoption of 3-year curriculum models, accreditation leadership, clinical skills education, and student affairs.

As Vice Dean of Education, Alexandraki will ensure a unified philosophy and continuity across the College of Medicine's entire educational mission, spanning undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education, continuing medical education, and educational scholarship. She will lead efforts to enhance learning environments, promote educational innovation, and ensure college programs prepare future physicians and physician associates to meet the complex health needs of today's patients.
