The Complementary Relationship Between the Medical Model and Recovery Model in Mental Health Care

Professional Practice Gap: A gap exists in physicians' understanding of how the recovery model can enhance the medical model and improve the care of consumers of mental health care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define the components of both the medical and recovery models of care.
  2. Show examples of how both models benefit consumers of mental health care.
  3. Explain how to implement both models together in mental health care.
